The answer is: $ ssh -P The -P flag tells ssh to use a non-privileged port. I was able to connect this morning to ta8. I guess there was some conflict with the port I was trying to connect to ta8 and Techangle's proxy? Whatever the case, put this flag in your bag of tricks if you upgrade to ssh2.
