If we're going to put out a policy, how about "no netiquette posts
allowed"? That said, reviewing the list pages and making sure the list
purposes are clearly stated might be useful.

I remember thinking, and may have even said years ago, that we needed
this done. I would like very much to say "please don't top post" and
link to our list rules. But at the time I was the only one who seemed
to care about that stuff.

Jeff et. al. thought that being inclusive and not petty was more
important. I think that was a wise position.

As a result I've avoided correcting people on this list. While everyone
else was doing that we managed to avoid useless threads like the recent
"Top down".

I still look down on top-posters and when Collins started correcting
people I thought "right on". Obviously though, without a standard that
the admins enforce we get into "my opinion is better than yours" and
"who made you the police".

Jeff has gone out of his way to make this a friendly list that welcomes
newcomers. It ain't linux-elitists, it ain't the kernel list.

It turns out that I can live with top-posters. I can even live with
people who reply using Groupwise (ugh). I don't think that making this
list a place to educate list newbies adds much value.

I have to say though that Mr. Havlicek seems unnecessarily rude. I hope
he goes away soon. Or perhaps he's just trolling (big gotcha for him if
he is).

Dave
