Some of you have noticed that certain CLUE email lists are not archiving
correctly. In fact, only clue-admin was working properly.
I have received help again from the mailman-users to determine the problem.
It was the mbox permissions were not set correctly for all lists except
clue-admin. Alas, it turns out that I should have run bin/check_perms script
(in mailman distribution) after the migration. Chalk it up to ignorance.
Because of my gaff, the mbox files for all mail lists [except clue-admin] have
not updated since we turned on the new server. This means archives are
out-of-date and it's unlikely I can retrive unarchived messages from mailman
- - but I have a question to the list about retrieval.
There is another way to restore the missing messages. If someone has an mbox
of the last few months of clue-talk and clue-tech, I can insert these
messages into the list mbox file (when mailman is turned off) and re-run the
archiver to restore missing archives. I have done this before and it works
fine.
I'm using maildirs and Kmail won't export a directory as mbox format [plus, I
expire my mailling list messages each month].
So, if someone would email me the clue-talk and clue-tech email messages in
mbox format from 12/22/04 through 2/20/05, I can restore the archives. The
files shouldn't be too big if you gzip them, but if they are over 10 MB, then
please scp to cluedenver.org and tell me the filesystem location.
Thanks,
Jeff
