Yes, that should work just fine. If not, 'sudo su -' and you're root.

I think that as long as we post messages saying what we're doing, that
shouldn't be a huge issue. Particularly when we're hoping to get a lot
done in a short time, it's a lot of stuff for one person to take care of.

And messing the system up is one reason why I'm in favor of always using
the package manager. RPM is usually really good about creating "rpm-save"
or "rpm-orig" versions of config files that get changed as a result of
installing or upgrading things. (I always make my own backups anyway.)
Plus, removal is easy.
