NO!

You can never, ever do anything [unless you know what you are doing] to the 
/var/lib/mailman/data  - this is where mailman queues outbound messages.

There are two problems:
1)  Mailman was not delivering mail for 6 days, so this directory had a lot of 
extra data.

2)  Spam messages, held for moderator approval (or killed when spamd is 
running) are also held in this directory.  We get so much spam sent to the 
lists, that when left unchecked, this directory gets a lot of data.

As Jed mentioned, we need an efficient way to whack spam from our mailman 
moderation queues.  Spam Assassin seems to require more monitoring than I 
understood.

On the previous server, I wrote a script to automatically delete posts held 
for moderation.  That is the quickest way to deal with it.

I'll poke around the mailman lists to see what others are doing besides using 
spam assassin.
