I assume you are talking about a web based bulletin board, right? Or
do you mean a real "BBS" or a newsgroup? I'd be fine with a
newsgroup. Still assuming you're talking about web based bulletin
boards, my opposition is general hatred for them. They are much
slower for me to read than my email. Also, this list being what it
is, I imagine lots of people read via mutt or pine or something - a
web page bulletin board doesn't generally work as well in text-mode
browsers as email lists work in mutt.

Well, poor threading and management is your mail client's problem. I
use gmail and labels and it works great. I've also used thunderbird
with folders and filters and was very happy.

Searching? Well, up until the server issues, this would work:

http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.cluedenver.org+sparc+scsi

I imagine it's just a matter of time for google to reindex those pages
since they aren't blocked in here: http://cluedenver.org/robots.txt

With...a little...ahem...encouragement it should get done faster :)

You can get threads here:
http://www.cluedenver.org/pipermail/clue-tech/2005-July/thread.html

And you can take those gzipped archives and unpack them and use them
for a private index on your machine (make beagle search them for you).

What are the benefits of a web-based BB?
