Oh, my.... I have been doing a little performance testing...
My inserts per minute (while other tasks are running on the machine)
while doing selects from the database at the same time seems to hover
around the 10,500 line. Not bad considering the the top machine on the
TPC-C scale was in the 8049.6 range (single CPU) and that machine cost
$160,643. My update rate is in the 4,700 per minute range.

It gets a little worse for big M and big O. This is a LAPTOP. It is
EIDE (no UDMA) it is a 366. The custom kernel hasn't been installed
yet. I was running X at the same time. The requests were all from the
ever slow, but powerful, PERL. Also, only 96M of memory.

I need to get the whole spec. I would like to try running the whole
test and see how it does, but any way you look at it, this thing is
fast. Now I need a dual or quad processor machine to really smoke
proprietary software.

P.S. All queries I ran against the database during the inserts returned
in less than a second.
