[CLUE-Talk] domain hosting

Hi -

Sorry if this is a familiar-sounding request, but maybe it will differ from
similar threads in the details.....

I need some simple, small-scale domain hosting. I don't need dial-up or
e-commerce features. I do need to use my own domain name, establish
per-page password protection for web pages and have password-protected
uploading and downloading from an ftp site. I also need good uptime, since
the people I want to share files with need them when they need them. The
ability to set up hit counters, track visits and get automatic notification
of ftp activity would be nice...from my limited knowledge, I gather that
these things are possible if cgi scripting is enabled.

I'd like it to be on a UNIX-like system so that working with my own site
might further my abilities with UNIX/Linux. I probably need about 25MB of
combined web/ftp space.

I'm not clear on whether there is a way to have shell access if I don't
have dial-up. But I suppose I can always edit configuration files locally
and then ftp them into place even if I don't have shell access?

I guess I've found all of this already, ranging from $0 to $15/mo (or
higher, of course). But I'm leery of the reliability of the free
ones. Seems like there should be someone local who could do all this for a
reasonable cost, and help me get started with the things I haven't done
before, like password protection of web pages.

TIA for any suggestions......
