You could try looking at what kind of box you have and see if there's a
web site for it.  The manufacturer might have directions for recovering
(or removing) the password, now that you've "forgotten" it.

My DSL came with a Cisco modem, and surprise surprise, there was a
password set so I couldn't configure it correctly.  But Cisco obviously
gets a lot of questions about that, so it wasn't hard to find out how to
reboot it and read the password out of memory.
