There seems to be some interest in the "build it yourself" versions of
Linux, for I've seen some discussion of Gentoo lately.
Here's another release along those lines: CRUX Linux. It's a version
that has binaries which are optimized for the Intel 686 processor only,
with a very small (~300 MB) installed footprint. The current version is
0.9.2 but it looks promising if the developer continues as he has done
so far.
The .iso download is 196 MB, and the installation was pretty straight
forward. The most interesting thing about it is the ports system,
similar to that of FreeBSD but not (yet) as sophisticated.
