Matt, I would strongly advise you to upgrade to the J2SE 1.4 (aka JDK 1.4). It is much faster for SWING applications on all platforms, including Linux. Mainly because the JVM supports direct graphics rendering in 1.4. I don't know if it will help your crash problem, but it can't hurt to try. Jeff
