volunteering him to do this.

I'd be happy to burn and give you the latest SuSE from 
http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=2, in an effort to save my
over-extended bacon, but you will have to get your questions answered by
another enthusiast, because I've never run SuSE (yet).
