Well, I hate to say it, but you are likely right. Unfortunately, a third party would have more than the usual resistance on this go-round due to the nearly even split and the feeling that the Dem's lost due to the Green vote in 2000. (note that I do not agree with this idea)
It all reminds me of something a former president said long ago:
