    currently reading  "benjamin
    franklin / an american life" *  by
    walter isaacson, and the author makes
    the point that people immigrating
    into america have had motives of
    gaining prosperity since the very
    earliest days.

    that includes josiah franklin
    (father of benjamin franklin) who
    got here in 1683.
