Seriously - here's what trivium means: a group of studies consisting of 
grammar, rhetoric, and logic and forming the lower division of the seven 
liberal arts in medieval universities.  Triviums is latin for 'meeting of 
three ways'.

In case you're wondering, the 'upper' division of the seven liberal arts in 
medieval universites:  arithmetic, music, geometry, and astronomy  (called 
the quadrivium)
