I'm not adding anything to the regex part of the discussion, but I did 
find it entertaining that Mozilla Thunderbird actually underlined your 
"_example_" word, and didn't underline the multiline example that 
wrapped.  ;-)
Even they haven't gotten it figured out yet.  ;-)
