As opposed to some others on the list (most notably Collins, who has
had some bad luck with hardware compatibility), I've had no problems
with Debian-based distros. Well, no problems that I didn't cause
myself, anyway. :) I ran Debian testing for a long, long time and was
quite happy with it. But it IS a testing distro, and some changes were
made that didn't agree with my system (ie some of my favorite packages
were removed from the repository). So I moved over to Ubuntu, and have
been very happy since.

I reckon you could call what I am running Xubuntu, since I am an XFCE
guy and installed XFCE the second I had Ubuntu up and running. But
really, Ubuntu is Ubuntu, a simplified, revved up version of Debian.
[grin] I would not use anything but Ubuntu at this point, and I'd
point all new Linux users to use Ubuntu (Kubuntu/Xubuntu/Edubuntu)
also.
