[clue-talk] oracle and open source

Folks,

I've seen some discussion of late about Oracle purchasing various
database technology companies including InnoDB and Sleepycat which are
frequently used in MySQL. Ellison is quoted as saying "We are moving
aggressively into open source. We are embracing it. We are not going
to fight this trend. We think if we're clever, we can make it work to
our advantage." You can easily read that quote optimistically or
pessimistally as a user of MySQL (or JBoss or...).

They host some of our meetings and do a variety of nice things for
open source projects, but somehow when I heard "Oracle embracing open
source" I don't get the same warm fuzzies that I did with IBM and
Google announcing that they are "embracing" open source.

What say the clue-bies?

Greg
