This capability is provided in Drupal Core's Profile Module.  It
doesn't require any extension or creation.  I could have a site setup
and extended to include the profile fields in 15 minutes.

Not to beat a dead horse...but if you want to blog, use
Joomla/WordPress.  If you want a framework for anything more advanced
(and eventually you will), use Drupal.
