Your responses were very helpful,
even though some of my questions
were vague; it is hard for me to
predict precisely which Open Source
packages that I will be using.

I was not trying to hide what I was
doing; but did not want to bore you,
either.
I am on MS Windows XP now and have
intalled Borland C++ and OpenGL
(grahpics). Used each, and together.

For the future, I am interested in
dicrete-event simulation packages TBD
and the "R" (calculation) language.
I am writing a simulator of my own,
which I may or may not continue;
it is teaching me a lot, in any case.

For experimentation with Open Source
packages, MS Windows is not practical;
that is why I am thinking Linux and
(recently) Mac.
