Eclipse is a kind of universal tool platform - an open extensible
IDE for anything and nothing in particular.

Which may sound kinda pie-in-the-sky, but looking at the 'consortium'
page:

The eclipse.org Consortium was formed to deliver new-era application
development tools. Industry leaders Borland, IBM, Merant, QNX
Software Systems, Rational Software, RedHat, SuSE, TogetherSoft, and
WebGain form the initial eclipse.org board of directors.

Pretty high-powered team. Oh, and their software is Open Source.

Anybody tried their tools yet?

If not, I'll let you know how it goes for me.
