My new Acer Aspire AS6530-5341 is working well.  I wiped Vista and installed Ubuntu on it.  I'm going to try a couple of other distros too to see what they are like now.  The latest Ubuntu (Hardy Heron?) detected the wireless, sound and webcam ok.  I haven't tried the LAN port yet, but I think it will work too.

With 3G of memory and 256 GB of disk space, hopefully I can use this laptop for a few years.

My only complaint so far is that New Egg dropped the price from $699 to $599 a week after I bought it.  Oh, well.
