I'm beginning to come to the conclusion that there really aren't parties 
anymore.  The platforms seem to matter less and less (at least while 
their running--so watch out), and the only thing that matters are the 
individual candidates.  But we still have a strong two party system 
because I think people want to essentially choose between the "top 
two."  So what seems to be evolving is a system where there are multiple 
candidates, two of them get most of the votes, and then we vote on one 
of the two.  It isn't there yet:  we don't all get to vote for the 
choice of both "parties" but I can really see it going that way.
