I only say this as a POSSIBILITY... but perhaps once the leadership was 
vetted and had their security clearances, they saw what was REALLY going on?

Just a thought... not sure I believe it.  I like your money theory 
better, but there's always the possibility that the NSA and others were 
able to show them what bad things are really happening "out there"...

In the end, it's all stupid games, but I'll throw that bone out there 
and see which dog bites...

The other very real and most likely possibility in politics is that the 
opposition has just as much dirt on them as they have on the 
Republicans.  Tit for tat.  No one can tattle on the other without the 
hammer coming down on them...

Sleazy business.
