The best computer operating system for a person is the operating system
that does what they want their computer to do in the way they want their
computer to do it.

That's why I use Linux: it works the way I want.

Mostly.

Right now I'm sitting on the floor with my laptop connected to my TV via
my laptop's S-Video output connection. After some hours of work I've
managed to get the display to treat the TV as a north american NTSC TV
instead of a european PAL TV. But I still can't get video to play on
the TV, and, with the TV connected video will only play on a sliver of
the native LCD panel. If I reboot into Windows I get exactly the
functionality I want with no effort.

I'm not knocking Linux, just reminding us all of the reality that Linux
is no panacea. It's another choice in operating systems that suits many
of us well. But while it may be virtually free of viruses it's not
without its drawbacks.

Makes a GREAT GIFT if you are willing to provide support to those who
receive it. No 1-800 number to call, a big reason why we use Linux and
give our relatives a Dell. :)
