I'll second most of the sentiments for different reasons. It was fun. I'm just conflicted. I really do want to be involved more in open source, so the "get out there and contribute" message speaks to me, but unfortunately, I've been in various tech support capacities for over 10 years, and I am just <b><i>sick to my very soul of it</i></b>. Unfortunately, my code skills are limited at best I suspect that any development contribution I could make would be meager to say the least. For now I'll have to be happy leeching.<div>

Pretty good. We didn't have a large turnout, but that could have been due to the weather. The talk was interesting and it was a conversation instead of just a presentation.<br>

I'm not sure if Crawford's eruption has really hurt the group. Confused and concerned people, yes. But it was not a topic last night, just a couple of questions off to the side. Some of the people who protested on line never come to meetings. I guess we'll find out over the next few months how much damage actually occurred.<br>

I enjoyed it very much. These were MY take-aways:<br>

- VirtualBox is a good desktop virtualization platform. (Jon)<br>
- Ubuntu LTSP is easier and shinier than LTSP5. (Jon)<br>
- David Willson is a leech, in that I use a LOT of free software, but I really don't help ~make~ free software. (Matt)<br>
+ Action item for me: Work actively with my "beginner" project of choice (DXX-Rebirth) to improve documentation and packaging. Grow into packaging other things that are "unpackaged and cool".<br>
+ I'll continue to teach and sysadmin, for love and money.<br>
+ I'll continue to contribute money to favorite projects.<br>
+ I'll try to be less of a pushy jerk about it all.<br>

Me too, and in fact at the formal vote, it was inherent that off-topic posting would be prohibited on the "the one list". But enforcing that, asking folks to STFU or even take it outdoors seems not to be having the desired effect. Proof that they weren't raised by ~my~ parents. That being the case, the next best thing I could offer normal CLUEbies was a short "how to install a basic noise-filter".<br>

FWIW, I've been reading these e-mails with interest. I think you people have a great group. However, I never come to meetings. Why? Because I was concerned about a key person in the group, who I thought was not mature -- in judgment of others and communication. I did not want to deal with it, until the right time (and when a really interesting topic came up, I sprained my ankle), and with a right approach. I expected problems to arise in the group, but that took a long time.<br>
However, there are always people not completely mature in any group. It does not really matter, but it is just life. You have a good group with a good purpose, and so you deal with the problems. Ultimately, whatever this controversy is, it does not have to mean anything. Just keep the focus on the objective of the group and deal with the problems routinely. Accept these glitches as part of life. Nobody is perfect, but we all get by.<br>
I have no intention of giving up on the group. It is a great thing. And I will become involved as my time times.<br>
