Do a man on du.  I am sure it has lotsa options.  Some likely do what you 
want.  If not, pipe it into grep to pick and choose what you want, or pipe 
it to sort to find the big ones, or the empty ones.  I like seeing hidden 
files and directories as well, they can be big space pigs (like your 
Netscape cache in ~/.netscape/cache)  Grep is your friend.  You can keep 
everything with a patern or pitch everything with a patern.  If you want 
more than one, pipe it through another grep.  If you do the one that will 
throw out the most records first, it will run faster.
