On the Mandrake vs. SuSE thread, Cyberclops mentioned minimizing how
often he logs in as root.

It's probably been mentioned here, but not this month, take a look at
sudo:

This program allows you to do things as root by running sudo <command>
from your own account.  It makes it unnecessary to log in as, or su to,
root and keeps a log of everything it is used for.

I haven't used it but my admin at work swears by it.

If you've never heard of it, you have now.  If you have heard of it,
what do you think?
