that is basically just a wrapper that does sanity checks and locks the
file.  it probably uses vi by default, which DOES NOT SUCK :>   

if you want to change it, change your EDITOR variable in the shell
EDITOR=pine (or other sucky non-mode based editor) :>
export EDITOR
