Evolution Review:

System:
RedHat 7.2 with pertinent updates
Kernel 2.4.16
Ximian GNOME Desktop
Evolution 1.0

Installation
I've played before with the software from Ximian, but it was always a
bit tricky to get the installation working correctly or the software was
flaky. However, the latest rendition of the Red Carpet software (the
application that manages download and installation) did a wonderful
job. Very simply, I clicked 'Next' a few times, waited for the download
and allowed it to restart X.

Software
The Ximian desktop top includes the Ximian version of GNOME as well as
the accompanying accessory software. On the RedHat platform, tracking
what was installed is rather simple; they were nice enough to name the
packages with 'package-name--package-version-ximian'.

Evolution, Ximian's answer to Micro$oft's Outlook, is a *very nice*,
well thought out product. I was able to point it at three e-mail
accounts, get my task list and calendar going and synchronize with my
pilot in about 10 minutes after the software installation completed.

The application is very simple to use and has just about all the
features one would expect in the integrated e-mail/contact/time
management software. Ximian has done an excellent job of taking the
features available in similar Windows software and making them available
on the Linux platform

Overall, I'm very happy with the software, but I am waiting for a bit of
polishing that I expect to see in 1.5 or 2.0, or whatever they name the
next release.

Also, for those of you forced to work with an Exchange server, Ximian is
developing the Ximian Connector. The Connector will allow you to
connect your Evolution client to a M$ Exchange server with all the
functionality normally only available to Outlook users.

    Dave,

I noticed that you sent this from 'Evolution' mail client. How do you like
    it?
