[CLUE-Tech] IBM Thinkpad Laptop comment

Hi Kevin and everyone else,

I recently installed Caldera 2.3 on a ThinkPad 1400 (c.1998-99) running
Win98. Like a lot of computer hardware/software out there, everything seems
to be OK until the owner has the nerve to attempt his or her own
configuration.
I can tell you that Caldera 2.3 installed without a problem, including X.
Then I booted into the "other OS" (because the rest of the family uses it),
and that corrupted the Linux init. I tried for a full day to figure it out,
then shelved it. (Anyone know what caused it?)
If I were buying a laptop, after checking the compatibility list, I would
check the utility software that is bundled with it. I was disappointed that
the ThinkPad came with One "Product Recovery" CD that handled everything
from booting/partitioning the machine to installing all the (Windows)
applications -- No Questions Asked, No Options Given, This is what you get.
I guess there's no such thing as a "bare bones" laptop, but there's a
concept!

Bruce
