[CLUE-Tech] modem is not responding

The first thing I would try is figure out if that is really where the modem is.
Try:
echo +++>/dev/cua
echo ATZ>/dev/cua
echo ATDT3035551212>/dev/cua
Obviously you can replace the phone number with whatever you want. I would
try using your own number, so you will only get a busy signal. Pich up the
other phone and listen in to see if it worked.
This should give you good insight into why it did not work (modem hooked up
wrong, permissions, bad symlink, wrong device, roasted hardware, etc.)
