If you're in a situation where you absolutly have to use telnet or ftp,
consider instally S/Key or OPIE, both are one time password PAM modules
that will work with ftp, rlogin, telnet. Your session can still be
snooped, but the password will not be usable again. Both are discussed
in Linux System Security. I can't stress the value of this book
enough, it covers tripwire, S/Key, PAM (very good coverage), xinetd,
tiger, PGP, logging, process accounting, sudo, TCP wrappers, portmap,
SSH, ipchains.
