[CLUE-Tech] /dev/cdrom gone....?

Gordon: Have you double-checked your connections on the CDROM drive? Tried
a different CDROM drive? Tried accessing it as an /dev/hd(whatever)?

I know what I would try: I would try to reinstall from the CD rom
choosing the "upgrade" option presuming Red Hat 7.1 has an option like
that.
