make a note for future reference that Mandrake 8.0 sometimes insists 
that you have a USB port, even when you don't.  Editting 
/etc/modules.conf to remove the alias statement for the non existent 
port solves the problem.

/var/logs/syslog gives an error message of unable to find 
char-major-180 when looking for the non existent port.

Anyone know what char-major-4 is? Can't find that one either, but no 
harm apparently done.
