I agree with you guys on these points. I received the software from my
company and decided to do some in home training. I am not a fan of what
Microsoft is doing in terms of .NET. I was disappointed in that running
anything other than C#, or VB is really a pain the you know what. For
instance, JAVA can be used on the backend, but calling it and using it
support is very thin.

I think MS would have been better to develop .Net with Java in mind in a
manner to extend the functionality of the Internet (provide a nice tool
to integrate a lot of technology easier than before). But instead the
traditional road of stick to the users and developers is the one always
taken.

As for no one looking for .NET skills.... That is true but give it time,
there are plenty of psuedo-tech-suckers out there who will adopt this.

I'm using .NET to build some web apps. What I'm doing isn't nebulous,
but not much different than J2EE was 2 years ago. I don't think the
windows apps piece is nebulous either, but the mobile device stuff
certainly is (but the devices are just as nebulous as the apps, so what
do you expect?)

I really dislike .NET though, and I hope it fails too. MS could have
contributed something useful to the Java platform, instead they spent a
lot of time duplicating it. And I hate the way their tools try to do
everything for you rather than being easily extended. But maybe I just
haven't been to enough classes to know how to use them.

Dave
