Nmap was being run from another machine, with a separate IP address.
From what I understood in the User's Guide, no ports should have shown
up as open under a port scan, yet there were some, as I listed.
My understanding is that a GOOD firewall will not show anything unless
the user sets it up to receive specific services, such as HTTP, POP3,
etc., that are running behind the firewall and must be accessible from
the Internet.
This did not appear to be the case, as I am not running any services
whatsoever that need be accessed by anyone on the Internet. Which is why
I posted my question.
Have you tried running a port scanner against your system to see if it
has anything open?
I can run one for you if you give me your IP address (privately) and let
your ISP know that we are going to do it.
