Actually, I'll finish the answer and let the chips fall where they may.
You should be able to turn off the feature you are experiencing from the
BIOS setup somewhere.  If I had to guess, I would say it'll either be in
'bios features' or 'power management'.

Unless I'm mistaken, you are experiencing a 'feature' of your BIOS.  Try
entering setup- uh, wait, how much of a newbie are you?  Maybe you'd better
just bring that computer to the next gathering...
