[CLUE-Tech] Strange file changes

Hello all. I am running Mandrake 8.2 and I am using Enlightenment as my
window manager. Well yesterday I went into the
/etc/X11/enlightenment/menu file and added programs that before now I
had to launch from the console. I was on as root used vi and edited the
files. Worked like a charm. Then later in the day I came back and the
shortcuts that I added to the menu were gone!! I went back and looked at
the files and they were just as they were before I edited them!! What is
going on here? I looked for backup files the system may be using and did
not find anything. Any ideas?
