Well, you can fix X the Unix way or the Windows way.  The Windows way is
to install a different distro (repeat as necessary until it works).

The Unix way is to figure out what's wrong and fix it--X almost
certainly supports your laptop.

If you want help, post details of your problem.  I assume that by can't
get X into graphical mode you're seeing error messages from it.  So log
in from a virtual console (press Ctrl-Alt-F1 or F2 to get a login
prompt).  Type 'startx 2>x.err' and post the file containing error
messages.

Or if I'm way off base, tell me how.
