Same answer, check if it is trying to go into power save mode.  An
application should not be able to cause this, unless it edits the
xf86config file, which it should not have access to unless you are
running as root.  Remember, in X, the applications are seperate from the
display settings.  As far as the app knows, the screen could be on a dumb
term hundreds of miles away.

The only thing I can think of as far as a app connection is that maybe for
some reason, when the other app was up, the window manager did not think
it was ok to go into suspend mode, but most likely, something else
changes, and changed the suspend mode settings.  There are some in the X
setup, as well as some in kernel options, but the kernel ones should only
be for terminals, not for X.
