I see this problem when I run ssh (mutt) on a cygwin system; If your
'client' is indeed a linux box, check that your $TERM is either 'xterm'
or 'linux'.  Either of these settings work here.   (I never have found a
$TERM setting that gets the line characters right with cygwin)
