Are you sure you have the 7.3 kernel update and not the 8.0 one?

- -rw-rw-r-- 1 2220 235 12762747 Nov 15 12:19 7.3/en/os/i686/kernel-2.4.18-18.7.x.i686.rpm

not:

- -rw-rw-r-- 1 2220 235 13633551 Nov 15 12:19 8.0/en/os/i686/kernel-2.4.18-18.8.0.i686.rpm

The 8.0 update won't work on a 7.3 system.

also, for kernel updates it's suggested you install them, not
upgrade. This allows you to boot back in your old working kernel if
something doesn't work right with the new one. Use 'rpm -ivh' instead
of 'rpm -Uvh'
