Well, then, mount it with
mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom
or, whatever fits your system. That is how my burner mounts, but I've
never tried to burn with it under Linux. (Just recently the burner
software for Linux started supporting my burner, but I have used it as a
reader for years)
