[CLUE-Tech] Syncing between server and laptop?

Rsync sounds interesting but is it OS independent or do both systems
have to be running LINUX and rsync?

What? You don't have CAT-V running throughout the house?

OK, that response is off topic. I'm certain there are others in the
group more quailified than me to answer this question but I'll through
in my $.02.

Rsync sounds like a better tool but RCS and CVS seem like they'll work
for source code and could be kluged for other files also but . . . I
don't trust auto synch.

Case in point: I've been burned with auto synchronization with a
laptop. I was flying back and forth from Midland TX, Central Time and
Denver, Mountain Time with a laptop, working on a network application.
I like to work while I'm on the plane. When I connected with the server
in Midland, my laptop clock was set to an hour later. My clock was set
to an hour earlier when I connected with the network back here in
Denver. The time changed before the synchronization took place. Older
files that I had pushed across the network from Midland overwrote the
newer files I had developed on the trip from Midland to Denver. I
haven't used auto synchro since. I don't trust it.

I do selected updates under manual supervision based on time stamp. I
have a primary system, "My Computer" and it's not the lap top. It is
platform/OS independent but labor intensive.
