I'm afraid I have no answers, but if you don't mind used components, you
might not have to spend as much as you think. I'm using a Matrox g450
(from the numbers I assume that's a later model than yours) that I got
for $10 at Action Computer. They seem to usually have a bunch of cards
at that price, and I think they guarantee them for 30 days, so if nobody 
knows what's wrong it might be easier than beating your head against the 
wall.
