I assume you are talking about the external modem (since it's USB and not the
internal one). My experience was that this is a Metricom modem and following
the information on this page was very helpful:

If that doesn't help, perhaps posting some more information about what you've
tried and what results you got would help people to debug your proglem.
Also - did you try the serial cable? I know the USB cable allows faster speeds,
but the serial might be a good thing to try for troubleshooting (e.g. if the
serial works then you can pinpoint it to a USB problem, not a modem problem).
