If you're inside a GUI, you can use the archiver program (ark).  In fact, zip 
files should be automatically associated with it (in KDE, anyway).  Thus, you 
can single right mouse click on the zip file to open it from a window.

You also can start ark from the command line.  It will open a window.

$ ark file.zip

  # where file.zip is your zip file

If you're not in a window environment, simply run the 'unzip' program.
