What type of video card do you have? I had troubles with my Radeon for a
while using anything that dealt with DPMS or 3D rendering. Once I turned
the monitor shutdown (now it just blanks) I stopped having crashes.

The other trick, if you don't do much 3D, is to set the AGP speed to 1
or 2 instead of the 4 that the cards like to run at. I don't have to do
this with X 4.3 now, but if it matters I can look at the config for the
line.

I have also turned off the APM utilities that RedHat so nicely starts by
default for you. Check to make sure your ACPI hardware isn't causing any
messages in your logs.
