suggests that your problem has to do with the touchpad sending data when 
psaux isn't being read.  You can unfreeze the keyboard by 
suspend/resume, or use GPM so that something is reading psaux.  It also 
says that the problem is after exiting X, so this may not help you.

You should be able to get and install gpm easily from wherever else you 
installed Red Hat, and all the dependencies should be in the same place.

The above page also implies that this laptop is less than reliable, so 
it may be a hardware problem.
